How to give ChatGPT and Claude better Google Ads context with MCP

The number of PPC teams adopting AI continues to grow, but people still face hurdles.
The top concern, held by 70% of respondents, was answer quality. No surprises here, as you won’t save much time if you have to double-check and correct AI output (or risk making mistakes).
Missing integration with PPC platforms and tools was also a common answer (40%). It slows teams down because they need to copy-paste data or create CSV exports. Without this step, answer quality can quickly be affected.
MCP servers fix this by giving the AI assistant a direct, structured connection to PPC data — no copy-paste, no CSV exports, and full context for every answer.
They’re easy to connect, too. With ChatGPT or Claude, it takes no technical skills or coding knowledge to put one to work.
What is MCP
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard framework that lets AI systems like large language models receive data from external tools and data sources.
In ChatGPT and Claude, they’re also called connectors.
Once you’ve connected a Google Ads MCP server, you can ask questions about your ad accounts in plain language. This includes queries that usually take multiple steps, like analyzing several accounts at a time or creating action plans that cut across the whole workflow.
Setup is fast and only needs to be done once.

Ways to put your PPC data to work
Once the connector is set up, you can ask your AI assistant questions directly about your Google Ads accounts in plain language. The more specific you are about the accounts, date range, goals, and limits, the more useful the answer is likely to be.
You can ask simple questions and follow up to know exactly what you should do, for example:
- What accounts are dropping in total conversions or revenue over the past 30 and 90 days?
- What are five quick wins for accounts losing conversions and revenue?
- What’s the biggest impact I can make to increase the conversions and revenue in these accounts?
Some of the real benefit comes from thinking about your time-consuming tasks and offloading them to an MCP.
Create a full account improvement plan
If you’ve taken on a new client and you want to start improving the account, this prompt will get you started. You can even specify if it’s a junior or senior analyst so the LLM knows how much context to give them:
Make a full action plan to give a junior analyst for <account name>. Include timelines for action and list the items in priority order. Include a prompt for each action item that a junior person can run to get more information and context. Show the information on-screen and create a PDF checklist.
Find accounts that need attention and create a task list
If you’re delegating work and want to create both a task list and investigation points, you can use this series of questions:
- What accounts are declining in total conversions?
- For accounts that have more than a 10% drop in conversions, which campaigns are driving the decrease?
- What’s the cause of the conversion drops in each campaign?
- What can be done to increase the conversions in those campaigns?
Ad testing and insights
Ad group organization and ad testing are fundamental to good PPC performance. However, spending time reviewing search terms and developing ad tests based on that data is time-intensive. You can offload that work to the MCP server with these prompts:
Based on the top search terms and n-grams in the <account name>, what are some ad headlines that should be tested? Make sure to review the current ads in each ad group and any statistically significant test results for current and past ads so the suggested lines are unique and not redundant. For each asset to test, list the reason why, its character count, and put the data in a table.
This prompt seems simple, but this is what the server is doing behind the scenes:
- Looking at your top search terms and n-grams across an entire account (you can also restrict the initial prompt to a specific campaign or set of campaigns)
- Finding what ad groups those terms belong to
- Analyzing the ads
- Suggesting new ads
That would take several hours to do manually, whereas the AI only needs a few minutes. You can then use the data to determine your actual tests or expand the prompt to include multi-ad group tests for even more insights.
Avoid budget and bid increase suggestions
We know that Google’s AI likes to suggest increasing the budget, and in most cases, that’s not an option. For this prompt and many previous ones, you can add a caveat to not suggest bid or budget changes.
In <account name>, what are five tasks that will improve conversions while NOT increasing CPA, lowering ROAS, or increasing the budget?
If you’re OK with moving budget around, you can add this additional line to the previous prompt to give the AI more options:
Please note: you can suggest moving budget from one campaign to another, but the total budget shouldn’t be increased.
Customize charts
Creating custom reports and charts can be time-consuming. You often need to download data, create a pivot table or summary, then create a chart from the data. That can be replaced with a simple prompt:
Create a chart showing changes in clicks and conversions by month for <account name>, and point out any inconsistencies in the data. Include both an interactive chart and a downloadable graphic you can use in a presentation.
You should still review the assistant’s conclusions and check the supporting data. But checking and organizing the initial analysis can take much less time than doing it manually.
